Jeannine D. Willms: Live and learn according to Jeannine Willms
I've been reaching for this dream for a very long time. I have had no guidance except for the normal support system of my friends and family. I'm sure there are a hundred books and courses on the "how to" for going about pursuing this dream. I wasn't pointed to that direction either. My life has turned out to be the never ending story of living and learning. A lot of disappointments but gaining knowledge on what to do and what not to do. I've been swindled, I've wasted tons of money and I've gone the wrong direction. I've also gotten a few experiences on my belt to make me want more. My blog will not only bring you down to my road of auditions, casting calls and ny acting jobs, but what I found to be useful information had I seen through the eyes that has been there and learned from each experience.

Headshots:
Simply put. Black and white is currently old school. A lot are now made into color. Standard 8x11 with your name or stage name on it. If you can get your resume neatly on the back of it, that's kudos for you but if not, it's not a big deal. Headshots can be expensive depending on the photography. I recommend going with someone that you've already seen their work or someone has recommended. Make up is usually extra. The thing with make up is it is nice for some "professional" person do it, but it's not always what you envisioned. Don't be afraid to either do it yourself or if you do hire a make up artist to voice your opinions. After all, it is your photo shoot and you are paying them. This is your first encounter to anyone for them to look at you and want to see more. Natural make up for a headshot also. It's not a glamour shot. It's just to show you and with that in mind try to show your personality. Smile if you are a smiling kinda person. Be serious, if you're really into serious roles. Have your headshot EVERYWHERE. Your car, your pocket book (of course you have to have one big enough to fit one in there), anywhere. You have no idea when an opportunity may come about. I've walked around in the city for an outing or to meet up with friends and found myself in situations to leave my headshot with someone in the hopes of something coming out of it. But guess what? I didn't have one. That also goes for Demos if you're a singer or do voice overs, resumes and reels. Be a girl/boy scout and always be prepared!
There are all different ways of creating your resume. I have found that as long as you have the following and it is neat and easy to read, that no one cares how the layout is. Obviously you need your contact info and this means ANY CONTACT POSSIBLE TO REACH YOU. Then you have your experiences. Film, TV, Theatre, etc. This includes the name of the production, your role and place of production. If they want anything further, they'll ask. Then there is your Skills. This can consists of what ages you can portray to if you can drive manual or automatic. The more skills you have, the better you impress. Of course, depending on what job you are going for, it does help that you have the skill they are requiring. Put on nice paper. Show that you care enough to make it extra special. A nice presentation is just as good as the information on it.
