Jeannine D. Willms: Showbusiness and relationships

I sure know my fill of pursuing this career and being in a relationship. It takes a strong, confident person to date someone in this field. I had this dream since I was about 12 years old. Along came a relationship and because of stereotypical beliefs of his, I stopped. It was my own fault. I take full responsibility for my actions. So for close to 10 years, although I did do things here and there, I didn't pursue theatre.. my ultimate passion. When that relationship ended, the first thing I did was return to that lost love and really felt what I was missing all those years. He didn't understand my passion because all he thought was the attention that I was getting or how I'm putting myself out there. Again, I don't blame him because I am my own person and had I been a stronger person I would stand up to it or take myself out of that situation. You need someone to support you. I've seen many people and their significant others who are not in the field being so supportive of each others dreams. I can completely understand how it might be difficult, but when it's something I've been doing way before you or something that is my dream, why wouldn't you support me?

Now in a more healthier relationship, I do still find that struggle. This time, I've learned. I do what I dream and if it's conflicting, shrug my shoulders and say, "This is me. I've been this way since day one. It's part of the person you fell in love with. I can't change myself and if you feel like you can't handle this, I understand." Hopefully this never really comes up but if it does, I hope that it's something to work out. If not, do I look for only other actors? Or just someone so sure of me and us that it's not an issue. It's hard to find, I'm sure. But my first love is acting. If it's my only love, so be it. I will still be happy!
