Jeannine D. Willms: Acting agency scams

Have you been to an acting agency and they tell you your child or yourself are going to make millions, BUT you have to invest X amount of $$$ with them for professional pictures? Or you tell them you already have pictures but they say they like to have the pictures done by their photographers. That's what's called a SCAM!

I must of spend close to $5000 in pictures and this has nothing to do with agencies asking me to fork over money to them. A lot of these "agencies" are looking for money the easy, quick way and that's to get you to cash in on their photographers even though you probably have professional pictures down. They'll try to persuade you with telling you yours are not good, not industry standard or they just simply do not accept other photographer pictures.

Bottom line. They are investing in you. They see you as a money maker. They will do anything to market you knowing you can make them money... including pictures. If an agency tells you you need to invest in them for you to be considered, run! I'm not saying they will not give you pictures in turn for your cash, but the point is simply that you should not have to give them money for it. You give them approx. 20% in whatever you make on the jobs they get you. That is how they make their money. One agency from experience and from actually reading in the news is New Faces in Hicksville, NY. Stay away!

Personal: 3/24/08 -

So this runway shoe show I'm supposed to do. I asked about my lack of runway experience and she said since I have dance experience that I should be able to "fake" my way in. So I'm set up for 11am on Friday. This should be mighty interesting to say the least.
